Duke alum’s younger brother sees shares rise
And as Rivals’ Travis Graf pointed out this week, the younger DeLaurier is getting more and more attention:
“Eli DeLaurier, a 2024 prospect, is a name basketball fans will remember for the next two years. His skills have developed at a rapid pace and he has a frame that will allow him to build muscle before heading to college…As DeLaurier continues to evolve into a more developed basketball product, he has caught the eye of many college coaches.”
Although DeLaurier won’t appear on any site’s 2024 rankings, remember that his class rankings are still limited to 75-150 names, depending on the site.
On that note, Graf provided the following parting thought:
“DeLaurier will be a player we need to seriously consider in our next rankings update later this summer.”
Javin DeLaurier finished No. 39 overall on the 2016 247Sports Composite and listed Duke with a four-star rating.
No mention of Duke’s interest in basketball yet
So far Eli DeLaurier has reported offers from George Washington, Mississippi State, Old Dominion, Radford, Texas A&M and West Virginia. In other words, it is already attracting interest in a mix of mid-major and high-major programs at this relatively early stage.
He told Graf that Mississippi State and George Washington stood out as his most active suitors.
Interestingly, DeLaurier mentioned UNC among the schools he would like to visit, but did not mention Duke. Perhaps one explanation for this is that he was once on campus at Durham to watch his brother play for the Blue Devils.
Time will tell if Duke freshman basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his gang will enter the fray for Eli DeLaurier. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a dot on the line.
Meanwhile, after making his NBA debut last season with the Milwaukee Bucks but only playing one game, Javin DeLaurier is now on the San Antonio Spurs Summer League roster. Their first game is at 5 p.m. ET Friday in Las Vegas against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
